Kneading Traditions by Rural Adventure

ITINERARY

The experience begins at the meeting point in Filandia and later you are transferred by jeep or bus to the experience site. Upon arriving at the farm we began the experience in the farm's kitchen, offering a coffee with aguapanela, “jacket”. Freshly cooked corn is taught, explaining what corn is, the varieties found in the country, and its different uses in Colombian gastronomy. Highlighting the arepa as a fundamental accompaniment to meals, especially at breakfast time.

We will invite visitors to light the stove, the host will light the fire and visitors will be able to blow to stoke it. Fundamental aspect of the experience to grill the arepa on the grill. It continues, moving to the place where the grinding machine is, narrating its traditional use and its leading position in the families of the Colombian countryside. Explaining to them how to use the mill and taking them to do it themselves.

Once the corn is finished grinding, making sure that all visitors carry out the activity, the dough is put together and the dough is kneaded. All attendees can participate in this task in turns. Making sure they wash their hands beforehand, one by one they take a portion of the dough and are explained how to assemble the arepa by hand, possibly using a mold, but the idea of the experience is for them to learn to do it by hand. After the arepas are assembled, they are taken to the stove, taking care that they do not burn by turning them occasionally. When the arepas are finally roasted, they are placed on a plate, and the different accompaniments are arranged, to the visitor's taste, and served with chocolate.

Finally, we will talk with the visitors for a few moments in order to know their impressions of the tour and then return them to Filandia.
