Rural Adventure's Barbas-Bremen Birdwatching Nature Center 🕕 6:00 am · Meeting in Filandia
We meet next to the main church in Filandia. Introduction of the guide, recommendations for the day, and departure for the Rural Adventure Nature Center.
🌄 6:15 am · Yarumo Negro Station — Birdwatching begins
The first light of day greets us with a spectacular view of the mountain landscape. We begin our search for birds associated with coffee plantations, corn and plantain crops, and other rural environments. Additionally, the canopy of the *Yarumo Negro* tree provides an excellent vantage point for observing and photographing frugivorous species.
☕ 7:30 am · Flavors of the region
We take a break to enjoy a typical regional snack and coffee, surrounded by the scenery of the Nature Center.
🎋 8:00 am · Estación Guadual — A forest within the Coffee Cultural Landscape
We enter the *guadua* bamboo grove to discover that *guadua* is much more than a traditional material of the Coffee Axis. Its structure provides shelter and habitat for numerous species and has been a fundamental part of the region's architecture, economy, and rural culture.
💧 8:30 am · Source Station — Where the water begins
We ventured into the native forest until we found one of its water sources. Here, we discovered the relationship between forest conservation, biodiversity, and the protection of water resources.
🌿 9:00 am · Buenavista Stream — The water corridor
We arrive at the Buenavista Stream, part of a natural network connecting the Nature Center to the Roble River and, subsequently, to the Quindío River. As we continue looking for birds, we will learn about the importance of these water corridors for the local wildlife and communities.
💦 Natural pool · Optional stop
Depending on the conditions and the flow of the tour, we may visit this natural spot surrounded by forest. It is a brief pause to listen to the water, take in the surroundings, and enjoy the place at a leisurely pace.
🌳 9:30 am · Molinillo Station — Nature and history
We will discover one of the native trees that best represents this route. Its history links biodiversity with rural culture: traditionally, its wood was used to craft utensils such as the *molinillo* (chocolate whisk), while today its conservation helps protect the region's natural heritage.
🐦 10:00 am · Yarumo Blanco Station — Final observation point
The tour reaches another strategic spot for spotting frugivorous birds. The *Yarumo Blanco* allows us to discuss the transition between ecosystems and observe how different plant species provide food, shelter, and connectivity for birds.
